I Am My Brother’s Keeper · Part 1 of 4
Three people, ripped from my life too soon. Two I call brothers. One blood. This is where I start telling it.
“I am my brother’s keeper” has been on my mind a lot lately. Not just as a saying, or a Bible verse, but on a deeper spiritual level.
Three people have been ripped from my life, way too goddamn soon. Two I consider brothers. One actually blood.
I’m going to break this into a series. None of you assholes would read it all in one sitting anyway. Myself included.
I learned the other day that a death impacts, on average, 135 people in a substantial way.
I am living proof that we can, and do, make it through this. After the pain fades, cuts turn to scars. You’re the same person you were before, and somehow fundamentally different. Not sure if it’s better or worse. But it’s different.
If you or someone you know is struggling, reach out. You are not a burden. Neither are they. Nobody is.
If right now feels especially heavy, go here immediately: the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. Call or text 988, or visit 988lifeline.org.
If this page helps even one person decide to stay, even one person feel accepted, it will all be worth it.
Stay Here. Keep Going.
